Sheerness has its own Kent County Council tip, so Sheppey residents don’t have to cross the bridge to Sittingbourne for a household run. Like every Kent site, it works on booked slots only.
Kent County Council can change rules and hours, so check its website before you set off. Details below were checked in October 2026. Clearing a full property on Sheppey? We cover the island from our house clearance in Sittingbourne page.
Where is the Sheerness tip?
The recycling centre is on Bridge Road in Sheerness. If you are coming from Minster, Queenborough or Halfway, it is on the Sheerness side of the island. Searches for “Sheerness tip” and “Sheerness recycling centre” both lead here.

How to book a slot

- Book online at hwrcbookings.kent.gov.uk, on the day or up to two weeks ahead.
- No internet? Call Kent County Council on 03000 41 73 73, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
- Bring your booking reference (on your phone or written down) and a vehicle voucher if your vehicle needs one.
What it takes
The site takes household waste: general rubbish, furniture, electricals, garden waste, cardboard, textiles and scrap metal. Kent County Council’s “what you can bring” page lists what is accepted and what is chargeable, so check it before you load up an unusual item.
You can’t carry waste in on foot, and children and pets should stay in the car.
No Kent tip takes Calor gas bottles, petrol, fireworks, clinical waste, plaster powder, oil tanks, bitumen, commercial paint or business waste. Medicines go back to a pharmacy.
Charges
Household waste is free. You only pay for tyres and DIY waste over the allowance.

Tips for a quicker visit
- Check the wind and weather if you’re carrying flat-pack furniture or boards: the island is exposed.
- Sort your load by type before you leave home.
- Take a second person for fridges, washing machines and wardrobes.
- Take working appliances and furniture to a charity shop instead where possible. Our guide to getting rid of old furniture in Kent lists the options.

If you have more than a couple of car loads, the booking slots, vouchers and DIY charges stack up, and you still do all the lifting.
