Household waste being unloaded at a coastal Kent recycling centre near an estuary

Sheerness has its own Kent County Council tip, so Sheppey residents don’t have to cross the bridge to Sittingbourne for a household run. Like every Kent site, it works on booked slots only.

Kent County Council can change rules and hours, so check its website before you set off. Details below were checked in October 2026. Clearing a full property on Sheppey? We cover the island from our house clearance in Sittingbourne page.

  • Bring your booking reference (on your phone or written down) and a vehicle voucher if your vehicle needs one.

What it takes

The site takes household waste: general rubbish, furniture, electricals, garden waste, cardboard, textiles and scrap metal. Kent County Council’s “what you can bring” page lists what is accepted and what is chargeable, so check it before you load up an unusual item.

You can’t carry waste in on foot, and children and pets should stay in the car.

No Kent tip takes Calor gas bottles, petrol, fireworks, clinical waste, plaster powder, oil tanks, bitumen, commercial paint or business waste. Medicines go back to a pharmacy.

Tips for a quicker visit

  • Sort your load by type before you leave home.
  • Take a second person for fridges, washing machines and wardrobes.
  • Take working appliances and furniture to a charity shop instead where possible. Our guide to getting rid of old furniture in Kent lists the options.
